Organization of the Discipline's Knowledge Base
The knowledge structure of Latin mirrors the sequence in which one’s native language is learned, beginning with oral vocabulary about everyday objects and events, and proceeding toward formal grammar and literature study. In addition to language skills, students learn Latin history and culture through the same “big ideas” approach as for the humanities.
Books and Materials
Students in grades 4-6 will use Ecce Romani. Students in grades 7-8 will use Latin for the New Millenium
Teaching Techniques
Students will be taught in an "elements first" approach that begins with letters and sounds, progresses to words, then sentences, then to comprehension of larger passages, and eventually to formal grammar study and literature.
