Happy New Year. We hope you all had a wonderful break. Scholars and staff have returned rested and ready for the important work ahead. We began the year at a strong pace with winter MCAP testing for a select group of scholars, DIBELS assessments for our younger scholars, and continued strong Tier One instruction across classrooms.
This is also a busy time of year. The Administration and Board of Trustees have been working diligently on our annual reports, and it is always encouraging to review the strength of our data. Our scholars are equally engaged as they prepare for the Wax Museum next week. We invite you to join us next Thursday at 6:00 p.m. to view our scholars’ impressive work.
Finally, please join us for the first PTC meeting of the new year on the 22nd. The PTC is a valuable opportunity to learn more about FCCS events and initiatives, as well as ways to become more involved in the Griffin Triangle. Have a wonderful weekend. Mr. Conroy and Mr. Kenny |

Join the Special Committee for Governance & Bylaws Updates |
Frederick Classical Charter School Inc. will soon begin a review and update of its bylaws to ensure our governance framework remains clear, stable, and responsive to the school’s long-term needs.
We’re inviting interested members of the FCCS community to serve on the Special Committee on Governance and Bylaws, which is expected to begin work in January 2026. This committee will collaborate with the Board to review sections of the current bylaws, recommend updates, and help strengthen our overall governance structure.
If you have experience or interest in nonprofit governance, policy, or simply want to contribute your perspective, we welcome your participation. Please express your interest by Friday, January 9, 2026. |
Volunteer Opportunity: Grant Writing Support for FCCS |
FCCS is seeking 1–2 volunteers to assist the Board of Trustees with grant writing for the Maryland Momentum Charter School Program (CSP) grant—a federally funded initiative supporting the expansion of high-quality public charter schools across Maryland.
The CSP grant is a critical step in FCCS’s continued progress toward securing a permanent facility and expanding opportunities for our students. The application portal opens February 19, 2026, and closes March 31, 2026.
We welcome individuals with experience in grant writing, education, or nonprofit work, strong writing skills, and the ability to collaborate on a short-term, time-bound project.
Interested? Please contact the Board of Trustees at bot@frederickclassicalcharterschool.org with a brief summary of relevant experience. Deadline to express interest: EOD January 30, 2026 |
Apply to serve on the Board of Trustees |
FCCS is seeking dedicated volunteers to serve on its Board of Trustees (BOT). We welcome individuals from FCCS families and the wider Frederick community who share our mission, vision, and Virtues. Parents, grandparents, extended family members, retired educators, and community supporters are all encouraged to apply—or to nominate someone who would be a great fit. Opportunities to Serve: |
- Three (3) two-year Trustee positions (terms ending June 2028)
- One (1) current BOT vacancy to be filled by appointment (term ending June 2027); rolling applications accepted
|
Volunteer Trustees are essential to FCCS’s success. We are especially interested in candidates with experience in accounting, finance, facilities, fundraising, grant-writing, education, legal affairs, governance, advocacy, communications, public affairs, or commercial real estate—but all passionate candidates are welcome.
Email a letter of interest to nomination@frederickclassicalcharterschool.org explaining why you want to serve, your vision for FCCS, and how your skills align with our mission and Virtues. Questions are welcome. Applications for the Spring 2026 election are due by February 6, 2026. |
Complete the Nominating Committee’s Community Survey |
The Nominating Committee is seeking input from FCCS community members about their goals for the upcoming BOT elections and priorities for candidate qualities. Please take a few minutes and complete the survey. |
This is a friendly reminder for families with current FCCS students: if you plan to enroll a sibling for SY26-27, you must enter them into the FCCS lottery. The lottery will close on March 16. Applicants will be notified of their status on March 18. |

February 2026 is Advocacy Month |
February is Maryland Charter Advocacy Month, and FCCS will once again participate in advocacy efforts in Annapolis. This year, we intend to broaden our engagement by including staff members, and we are also exploring opportunities for our scholars to participate in age-appropriate ways that allow them to learn about civic processes and the role of public education in state policy.
We also invite parents and staff to join us in this important work. Families and staff are encouraged to ask questions, learn about the legislative issues impacting charter schools, and participate when possible. Our goal is to strengthen our collective voice as a charter school community and ensure our students and staff are represented with clarity, professionalism, and unity. Comments and questions are welcome via email bot@frederickclassicalcharterschool.org
More information will be shared as schedules and logistics are finalized. |

Join us in bringing Classical Principles to life! Each month, see how our core principles shine at school and at home with help from Zeus, our cheerful Griffin mascot, and some members of our community. This fun initiative helps families turn big classical ideas into simple daily habits, boosts parent confidence in at-home learning, and strengthens the connection between school and home.

As a friendly reminder, please help scholars protect library books from water damage. Water bottles, spills, rain, and backpacks placed on wet surfaces can easily damage books beyond repair. To help keep our library collection in great condition, we ask that: |
-
Books are kept away from water bottles
- Library books are placed in a separate, dry pocket of backpacks
- Extra care is taken on rainy days
|
If a book does become damaged, please contact us at library@frederickclassicalcharterschool.org so we can assist.
Thank you for helping us care for our shared library and support a joyful reading community! |
